Fr. Frank Bird visits refugee
camps along the Thai-Burma border.

From Frank's blog:
Over the last 7 days
I’ve been in the Far North along the Thai / Burma
Border. The civil unrest and the 60 long years of fighting particularly
between the Karen (pronounced Kar – ren) and the Burmese government /
Army have created 9 Refugee Camps along the Thai Border as
people flee their villages for safety from the particularly cruel
treatment the Burmese soldiers give to the Karen people. Currently
there are 117,000 + refugees along the border in these 9 camps and
while we were visiting over the past week we could hear the gun
shelling. Over the recent weekend a further 4,000 refugees came across
the border and we saw a number walking to try and find food. Being
close to military fighting, border controls, security checkpoints and
soldiers checking buses at midnight, 3am and 4am is a rather chilling
experience.
